Cyril Golding’s classic text and illustrations (1986)

Note: This is the original edition, which uses the word "Indian" rather than 'Native American."  Our reading on the subject indicates that "Indian" appears to be preferred today by a majority of indigenous Americans. We understand that more appropriate than either generic term would be reference to an individual's specific heritage, e.g., "Sarah Begay, a member of the Navajo Nation." There are actually 560 distinct tribal identities currently recognized by the U.S. government.  Five major regional groupings are represented here. We offer these classic cards as a classroom-tested research and project tool for late 6-9 or early 9-12 based around fundamental needs. The pictures are well-drawn, the text respectful and informative. Any points of language which might merit re-evaluation in future editions will make excellent discussion areas with children at their transitional point of development and consciousness of language.
